Manly, Rugged Love

Jeff Weddle writes:

The whole notion of giving up your will for someone else seems very weird to us. Seems impossible even. But the notion is that of love–giving up your will for someone else’s. The problem with “love” is that it sounds very sissy like. “Love is for girls.”

It is a definite manly desire to have adventures, to do new things, to take risks and be a rebel, not always following the way of everyone else. That’s manhood in a nut shell. Love–giving up your will for that of another–fulfills all of that. If we were to carry out love as the Bible defines it, we would live a life of constant adventure, never knowing what is next, not following the way of the world which is to do your own thing for your own reason. Doing another’s will is actually rebellious in our age!

If you don’t believe me that “love” is a masculine word and action, take a look at 1 Corinthians 16:13,14, “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. Do everything in love.” Verse 13 sounds manly and rugged, but what’s up with 14? How does love fit? I just told you!

It’s time we redefine Love and take it out of the wishy-washy feminization it has undergone. Biblical Love is an adventure and can be carried out with anyone at anytime. If no one is there, then love your Lord!

One response to “Manly, Rugged Love

  1. The beauty of God’s love and character is that it is reflected in both how men and women have been created. What frustrates me to no end is that this world wants to make men and women the same apart from the plumbing. If it was just due to our sexual differences then is nothing separating how men and women act and do things… both are just as capable and equipped to do as the other. What a load of politically correct garbage! To think like this is a great tragedy and insult to how wonderfully God has made us!

When we start to embrace the differences in how men and women tick and allow each other to support the other as only they can, then we will begin to see God’s intention coming to fruition. This is best seen in the context of marriage. The wife is equipped to nurture the relationship from within, to build up her husband and care for him and the family. The husband is wired to protect and serve the family as a warrior, to encourage his family on in the face of hardship, seeing to it that he leads his family toward God through his words and actions. Both husband and wife need each other, both roles are just as critical to seeing a marriage and family prosper. What a difference being encouraged and valued to love one another as God intended it would have on divorce rate in our society. Christian’s are nearly divorcing as much as non Christians!

We need to squash chauvinism and feminism out of our thinking, as both are just as destructive in cutting down and inhibiting men and women to live and act as god intended. When we discover and build up the benefits of how God created men and women, what a more blessed people we will be. We will all know what it is to be protected, loved, nurtured and watched over. Men and Women are just as valuable before our glorious God as each other. Both glorify His name when they live as He created and designed them to be. Let’s value one another for God has made us and trust in Him by allowing men and women to be who we are according to God’s good and perfect plan.
