Top 10 Most-read Bible Verses

The folk at BibleGateway have crunched some data and provided us with this interesting list of Bible verses.

Here are the top 10 most-read Bible verses on BibleGateway.com (all verses quoted from the NIV – links to ESV):

  1. John 3:16: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
  2. Jer 29:11: For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
  3. Rom 8:28: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
  4. Phil 4:13: I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
  5. Gen 1:1: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

  1. If you look at that list, what you see is the Gospel condensed! One brief glance at that list and your eyes take in a powerful reminder of Who made the earth, how much He loved His disobedient children, the price He paid to save us from His wrath, Who gives us strength, and what a great comfort He is to those who desire Him and call Him Father.

    I’ve spent some time reviewing not only the top ten, but the entire list of 100 verses from this list. If you read my Tweets in the right column, you will see that most of these are linked to verses from this list.

    What a rich source of blessing His Word is for us. God’s word of promise cannot fail to bring his people into the richness and fullness of eternal life a (Isiaah 55:11). The Word of God will stand forever. Human good intentions fail, but God’s promises succeed. (40:6-8).
